I’ve recently realized that puzzling, one of my favorite winter past times, is very zen.
On evenings when I can’t get out of my head after a long day of thinking (and overthinking), a puzzle seems to do the trick. As I start to sift through pieces, I feel myself getting more engaged in the puzzle and less engaged with the unhelpful narratives inside my head. My chest loosens and my body feels more grounded. I even start to feel my attitude shift. Instead of feeling irritated at how difficult the puzzle is to complete, I focus more on the process, and enjoy the little victories.
Everyday activities can be surprisingly meditative if you’re willing to step into the moment and be fully present in a mindful, intentional way.
What helps you unwind...slow down...feel grounded? Maybe give puzzling a try.
